In this modern and civilized society, information and knowledge continue to increase every day. The size and complexity of information seem to expand significantly with the rise of the internet thus the dissipation of data into our lives is increasing. At present time, the term “information explosion” is already not enough to describe our situation; people have been educated passively to be ignorant, to knit-pick vital information and to accept information without understanding or questioning the source of the data, because they assume, that there is too much to learn and too little time.
However, this type of learning attitude is totally different as compared to our ancestors’. They learned by experimenting and understand all by themselves, but for us, it is the other way around, the knowledge gets to us, bombarding onto our faces. We were told what to do, know only what we were given and sometimes we do not even know why we learn certain things. We learn and absorb constantly.
Anything can be a lie, scientific reports might be fake, news can be created, as for our society, any agencies can be a con. This exhibition is titled “Breakthrough” as to invite our audiences to take part in the exhibition that will hopefully break through the old concept. The exhibition is about looking into new forms of exhibiting and showing novel artworks that challenge the way we view the world. We are trying to make people think, use their body to feel, stir their senses and see the world we are living in a new light so to break through the inherent mind.
The exhibition simultaneously happens in three places and using a familiar tool, “the internet” to connect these three places into an entity. These three places are the
(1) KL Performing Art Centre which attracts many audiences who are interested in the performing arts,
(2) Dasein Gallery that many students and lecturers will pass through and in a commercial gallery space,
(3) The Gallery @ Starhill in a luxurious Commercial Building
